Been out of the dev world for a while so forgive me if this is obvious. Just downloaded my entire site from Azure via FTP. Restored my Azure SQL to a local SQL Server. Setup IIS , entered an alias in the alias table for my local IIS site name and changed my hosts file. I go to my browser and hit my alias and it just hangs for 30+ minutes. What can I do to troubleshoot? How do I know what it's trying to do?

OS: Windows 10

SQL Server V12

Permissions are granted to Network Service ; Full Control

IIS: Independent new site; Default is stoped.

Just wanted to give some additional context; I was able to deploy a default VisualStudio MVC Web App to IIS and browse to it successfully. So I know IIS is fine.

OK, got past this one, changed a few things:
Changed the identy in app pool from ApplicationPoolIdentity to Network Service
Also changed the connection strong for the legacy SQL Connection string.

Now I'm getting the following error:

Object reference not set to an instance of an object.

Description: An unhandled exception occurred during the execution of the current web request. Please review the stack trace for more information about the error and where it originated in the code.

Exception Details: System.NullReferenceException: Object reference not set to an instance of an object.
