Hello all,

I seem to be having a problem with the default.css file.  My designer has developed a wire frame using css that needs to be applied to three different skins.  It's my understanding that the order for CSS inheritance is:
- default.css
- skin.css
- container.css
- portal.css

It seems that none of my skins are picking up the default.css styles.  If I move those styles to the portal.css, they work fine - but of course, they now override the skin.css styles.

I've done some searching on google and read a post stating that perhaps the order of style imports in the default.aspx is/was incorrect.  I made the change but didn't get any results.  I also did a quick search in the bug report forum, but didn't find anything.

Does anyone know of this issue and what can be done to fix it?

Thanks a lot!

Dave

The load order of the external stylesheets is correct.
But your problem is not clear to me.

Applied to portal.css it works but overwrites skin.css.
If you put it in default.css the same definitions are loaded before skin.css and skin.css overwrites them.
Seems logical to me, but I guess you have a different problem?

What if you remove all definitions from skin.css that are also in default.css (I mean the ones you want to add)?

By the way, If you want to add something to a  a skin I would put it in skin.css...

I agree, that's how it *should* work.  However it seems in my case, the default.css styles are not being applied to any portion of my site.

The default.css has <div> styles defined for the wireframe layout (as well as other default styles) that will be common to all portals we are hosting.  The skin.css contains definitions that will override some of those default styles, but will leave the wire frame <div>s alone.   I could move them all to the skin.css for each skin, but that means if I want to change the wireframe I have to change each and every skin instead of just the default.css.

It's almost like the default.css is not being loaded at all.

I just stumbled across some information confirming that there was a time when the Default.aspx file contained an error and was importing the stylesheets in the wrong order.  I attempted to make the fix manually to the file, but that didn't quite work, so instead I just updated my default.aspx from the new installation zip (it seems the people here downloaded a slightly earlier version) and it works fine now.

I'm glad it wasn't that I broke :)
