Hey gang, I'm new here.

I recently exported an entire site by getting the ".template" and ".resources" files for my old site. Now i'm on a new host and i'm trying to import this new content to a portal, basically duplicating the site. So I've found some information on this...they say just go to portals logged in as the host and install the files, and the only way I was able to do this was logging into my new server via FTP and uploading the two content files to the default folder to be able to actually see the files as a choice for a template for when I create a new portal. When I created a new portal, it transfered the files, and created the portal, but nothing worked. So please, someone help me out and basically tell me how to duplicate a site. thanks in advance!!!

The procedure you just outlined will work, but it has limitations.  Primarily, I'd limit it to just the basic modules: in particular the pages and their settings, and the Text/HTML modules.  As a general rule of thumb the more complex the module, the less likely it is to work through that procedure.  But it's a great quick easy way to duplicate the basic page structure, roles, basic content etc. and you can then go in subsequently to configure any other modules.

Of course, the tab ids will likely be different and you won't have other things like the site log.  If you truly want to move everything over, you need to take a different approach and move the exact files and directory, and the database itself.
