All the modules have to render compliant code also, and if you start including third party modules then you will be hard-pressed to find them maintaining this standard.

Good point - considering the awareness level on this I think it would be very hard to achieve full compliancy!

Thanks for the info.  I read Cathal's blog post from June.  What he posted sounds GREAT!  Does anyone know what sort of time line we are talking about?  When will DNN be fully ADA 508 compliant?

Some of the other replies to my post suggest that the current version is partially compliant.  Can anyone give me any more info on this?

Again, I work for a U.S. Government (Federal) Agency.  Our Web Sites must be ADA 508 compliant.  We are REALLY interested in utilizing DNN for our agency's intranet and possibly some other web-based projects.  But if it does not comply, then we won't be able to use it.

Thanks again for everyone's time and effort in providing me with answers to this question.

Nadine

Just found this post, and thought I'd provide an update. I've been working on and off on this for a few weeks, with some help from a community member, David Wendelken (David's interest is primarily creating an XHTML version, but theres a good degree of cross-over). I've added a few of the work items to the core issue log http://support.dotnetnuke.com/Issues.aspx?m=1&c=1&v=11 (anything that begins with "Compliance-" is part of this task), so people interested can track progress. At present I am working on some other core aspects, but I hope to do this as part of the next major release (I do not know the timeline's at present, but it's likely to be a few months).

Nadine,

I also work with federal agencies and have encountered 508 compliance issues before. My experience has been this, very few (if any) web frameworks by default will be fully compliant and this also applies to custom built websites. Basically, it's up to you as the developer to MAKE it compliant in the end. If you go through and actually read all the requirements for 508 compliance, most aren't too complicated or very hard to implement. So, the question is can a DNN website be compliant? I think the answer is definitely yes, IF you stick with the only the core modules (or modules that you have source code for) so that you can modify as necessary. Of course, you'll also need to make sure your skin is also compliant, but should be doable.
