I'm trying to add a link in the standard 4.3.3 links module, which looks like file://n:\test.txt.

In the above example, "n:\" refers to some mapped networked drive. I do *not* want to upload test.txt to the website. I want the user to be able to click on a link, and be taken directly to the test.txt file, which will be handled however the user's browser sees fit.

I've tried all plausible combinations for fore-slashes and back-slashes. I've tried both "file://" and "file:///". Nothing works - the best result I get (which isn't good) is a page that says "Object moved to here", where "here" is a link that displays the URL of the file I actually want. Clicking on this link, however, actually doesn't do anything (at least not in FF 1.5.0.5).

Is it possible to use urls of the form file:///n:/test.txt with the Links module? If so, what am I doing wrong? If not, why not, and what other valid urls does the Links module not allow?

Thanks for insights,

cdj
