I got a little further, but predictably, I ran into yet another roadblock.

I completely blew SQL Server 2005 Express off my machine and reinstalled it, this time using the default instance instead of a named instance. (Lesson: DNN can't figure out named instances for some reason. Isn't this a major bug?)

I go back and run the script at /Install/Install.aspx?mode=Install, and during the execution, I get this (scroll down to the boldfaced lines to see the problem):

What the heck is going on here?

I load the main default.aspx anyway, and I am greeted with this:

Now what do I do with this incredibly obtuse error? This is a very, very basic error, and I am amazed that DNN would be this poorly set up that this could happen.
