I am not sure where this reply is going to show up.  I can't seem to reply to the message I want to.  When I click the reply button on the message I want to reply to, the page posts back and the page refreshes, but I don't get the Add/Edit Post module, nor is there an error message displayed.

Bruce, I think I have found the issue.  But, there is some definite weirdness to it.  First, take a look at this behavior.  Go here:

http://www.dotnetnuke.com/Default.aspx?TabId=825&BlogID=65&ParentBlogID=5&BlogDate=2006-08-31

This is Cathal's blog for the blog module.  Hopefully you will be seeing the calendar set for August and you will see two blog entries, the top one dated August 28 and the bottom one dated August 08.  Now, here is a point about how this is supposed to work.  I assume that if I click a date in the calendar, I should only see the posts on or before that date?  There is definitely some functionality similar to this, even if my cutoff point is inaccurate.  Since the top post is dated August 28, click on August 28.  The top post (dated 8/28) is still there.  So far so good.  Now click on 8/27 and the 8/28 post is still there!  But, click on 8/26 and the 8/28 post disappears.  So, I assume there is funtionality that makes posts only display since some date chosen from the calendar.  But what is the logic there?  For a post on 8/28 it is there on 8/27?  Doesn't seem correct to me.  I am wondering if timezones are playing into this.

Now, here is where my problem came in.  Go to my site here:

http://www.linqdev.com

Three or four modules down in the center (content) pane you will see a blog module named LINQ to Joe.  It has one post dated 9/12/2006.  You will also see the archive calendar in the right pane.  Click on 9/12 in the calendar and the post is there.  No surprise because that is what we would expect.  Now click on 9/11 in the calendar and the post goes away.  Again, no surprise.  But, click on 9/12 again and the post is still not there!  Click on 9/13 and it comes back.  Click on 9/12 again, and it is still there.  Its as though if you click on the date of a post in the calendar, it only displays if it was already displayed?

There is definitely some funky behavior going on here.  I think this behavior at my linqdev site is what caused my problem.

Joe, I see what you are talking about now. I'm not now convinced the calendar functionality works as expected at all. I would say lodge a bug report and let the project team figure out what may be happening here. My site a Dynamicvb.net exhibits weird behavior too if you start moving through the calendar.

We believe it is timezone related, sadly we haven't had the time lately to look at this, but it's on the list.

Just to weigh in on this topic, I've been experiencing this problem ever since I set up my Blog.  I've narrowed it down to a timezone problem, and it only shows up when I edit an existing blog entry (which tends to happen a lot when you are trying to get an entry to look right).

I posted an entry today.  The AddedDate column on the Blog_Entries table showed the correct date.  Then I went back and updated the entry.  It took my local timezone (GMT + 10) time as the Addeddate, resulting in 2006-10-19 10:30 as the added date.  Going back to the blog page, the entry no longer showed up unless I clicked on the next day.

My SQL Server shows a current time of 2006-10-19 00:30, which means it is running on GMT / UTC time.  My portal is set to GMT +10, as is my local computer.

I've noticed that the more updates I do, the further into the 'future' the entries seem to go.  I'd say that there is type of code on the update procedure which is adding the +10 to the added date each time.

I have found a few timezone related bugs in the framework - I think this is a result of most people running the same timezone on their workstation, portal, web server and sql server.  Unfortunately in the real world people use hosting companies in different timezones to their portal, and sometimes hosting companies have sql servers running different timezones to web servers and more.  It quickly builds into a headache.  I've developed new reporting scripts for the site logs, developed new skin objects to show the portal date correctly and have been looking at this blog entry problem for a while.

Most of the time I just run a quick update of 'update dnn_blog_Entries set AddedDate = getDate() where entryID = nn'

Simple but effective!

it's definitely time zone related.  I just ran across this tonight.

I created an entry, just fine.  When I edited it, it shows the create time as being 4 hours later than the original create time.  That's peculiar when you consider that I'm in GMT-5 and my host is GMT -7 (Colorado).
