Thanks for the reply....
Sounds like a place to look at but the strange thank is i have a total of 3 DNN sites up and all 3 when they were 1st set up and install send email msg.
What is the best SMTP server or service that DNN prefer to use? Thru IIS?

well i finally got it working...i opened the IIS smtp relay and set the dnn site to use the local smtp.
I do not quit understand why it worked at first and then it didnt....good think i am knowledgible on config the smtp part.

Hi,
We have also a mail sending issue, but I do not think this is an issue with smtp-settings
We upgraded some sites from 3.2.2 to 4.3.5 and we get following error-message by registering users, but not always.

System.Net.Mail.SmtpException: Failure sending mail. ---> System.IO.IOException: Unable to read data from the transport

In version 3.2.2 we had no similar problems either.
Yesterday I registered about 30 users and 20 of them received the mail, on 10 of them we had the error message and no mail to the users.
Has anybody seen similar behaviour?

We have recieved a couple of comments from other developers that there appear to be some SUBTLE differences in the way the ASP.Net 2.0 and ASP.Net 1.1 email classes are functioning (I have heard of only one, fairly obscure, case).  So it is hard to imagine that this area (which has seen no code changes in may versions) has suddenly become "buggy".  What I have found to be the case is ususally some combination configuration rules on your SMTP server?  Can you go back and look at your SMTP server logs to see how it responded to the SMTP request?  Was there any common trait among the users who did not receive mail (e.g. same domain, etc)?

It seems that the issue is been solved by configuring "localhost" as stmp-server.
We always had the real smtp-server configured and in asp.net 1.1 there never had been any issue.
So today I tested registering 15 users with "localhost" as smtp-server (we have one locally installed on our webserver, but the real smtp-server is from our isp), and I wasn't able to reproduce the error I received in the other configuration.

I will do more and deeper testing (maybe there is a domain issue also), and will report here.
