why cant i find this membership provider? i dont even have the source/library path in my dotnetnuke installation..... thanks!

I'm trying to find a way to force login a user. he/she clicks my portal from a main portal (where he/she is logged in) and then passes parameters to my portal. using this parameters, I should force dotnetnuke to know this person.... several ideas were given to me and this is one of them. to tweak the membership provider or use cookies... but i want to try the membership provider idea first. can somebody help me with this? thanks so much...
