I am still not clear about your setup:

if you have a virtual directory "home" under the "default website" web, you can only access your portal using <hostname>/home or <ip>/home.

make sure you do not have a subdirectory in your DNN installation folder called home

make sure, <ip>/home and <hostname>/home are assigned as portal aliases, if necessary, add them manually into table PortalAliases in the database (without any prefix).

Adding it to the portal aliases worked. However i cannot log in.
I never changed the default passwords for the admin and host accounts.
I even tried to retreive the host password but keep getting the message There was an error retrieving your password password not sent.
any way i can change the pw in the db even though it is encryped in the membership?
I guess i could reinstall the db but would like to avoid that if i could

Great that did it,
Thanks for your help
but the reports module will not install it just says error. I found some posts that said you had to enable full trust in the web config.
I changed that, but the reports module still fails on install
