I am receiving the same error.

I was able to install the modules via domain.com/install/install.aspx?mode=installresources and this successfully got all the modules installed.

However the error above remains.

After further digging - I have found that the PortalAlias is not being created created and when I do directly into the database to add a portal alias I get the following SQL error;

"Cannot insert explicit value for indentity colum in table 'PortalAlias' when INDENTITY_INSERT is set to OFF"

I believe my issue has to do with permissions.

Any get past here yet can share some ideas?

To get past this error, you need to start over, but before running the install you need to remove the Repository, Blog, Gallery, & Forums modules (zip files) from the <dnn-root>\Install\Modules\ folder.

After the install is completed, you can go back and install those modules one at a time.  What is happening is that some systems are restarting the application before all the modules can be installed.

I had the same original problem as most people on this thread (and about 20 other people I found from searching for help).  I was finally able to get the install run complete successfully only after I installed SP4 for SQL 2000!  Of course I know have the same "new" problem as the person who only has five modules; but at least DotNetNuke is running.  I will try the above fix and hope it works.

I hope the SQL 2000 SP4 tip helps some of you who can't even get the install to work!
