I've upgrade my 4.0.3 DNN site to 4.3.6 but now I can't log in on any of the user accounts. When I try to have it send the password, I get "There was an error retrieving your password. No password was sent."

I'm looking in the database, and there's no password field. (Which is normal, I know) Do I simply need to set the UpdatePassword switches to '1'?

Another search yielded this answer, which solved the problem.

First thing is to check that you copied over your MachineValidation and MachineDecription key from your previous web.config

If you still can't login with the old password after that, then you can use the password and passwordsalt from the newly registered user, just copy those values to the host user and you can login with that password.

Hi. I am considering a 4.0.3 to 4.3.7 upgrade. Wondered if you could tell more about your experience.

In your above problem, was it simply the web.config keys that needed updating, or did you have to take the second step above: register a new user, then copy password/passwordsalt over HOST record? If so, once HOST could login, then could all other users login OK w/ old passwords? That seems like a miracle. :)

And, did you use the UPGRADE package, or the INSTALL package (or other)?

If a problem can be solved, there's no use worrying about it.
If it can't be solved, worrying will do no good.

I used the upgrade package. I don't recall having to create a new user, I think once the machine keys were updated everything worked fine.

In the past I have had trouble using the UPGRADE package. I started doing INSTALL packages when I had difficulty with UPGRADE, but I feel like I should do an UPGRADE more often - and this time especially. Do you have any docs you've created, or other procedural steps you follow, for making sure you do an UPGRADE correctly?
