I'm trying to upgrade from 2.1.2 to 4.3.5 (via 3.3.6) and getting nowhere fast.
The upgrade completes (with errors) and then when I try to access the site I get a login screen and nothing else, the login doesn't work either.
I'm trying to upgrade to 3.3.6 first as I've read that you can't move straight from 2.x to 4.x but I'm still getting the same problems in the upgrade process.
The real killer seems to be in the Member Role stuff - I get this error in the 02.02.01.log

"System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException: ALTER TABLE DROP COLUMN failed because column 'Telephone' does not exist in table 'Users'.
   at System.Data.SqlClient.SqlCommand.ExecuteNonQuery()
   at DotNetNuke.Data.SqlDataProvider.ExecuteADOScript(String SQL)
   at DotNetNuke.Data.SqlDataProvider.ExecuteScript(String Script, Boolean UseTransactions)

---- snip snip ---

ALTER TABLE dbo.Users
DROP COLUMN Street, City, Region, PostalCode, Country, Password, Email, Unit, Telephone"

Which is quite right there's no "Telephone" column in my Users table. I've got HomePhone, WorkPhone, Mobile andFax.

Is there something I'm missing here? Is this a customisation of the table or some "magic" setting I need to look at?

I hope you've got a backup! I'm sure you do - but I spoke with a core team developer who told me he spent 8 hours or more upgrading a DNN 2 site to dnn4, but I thought he upgraded to DNN 3.1.1 or 3.2.2 first - and then 3.3 since the the memberrole changed between 3.22 and 3.3

I don't have an answer, just a comment based on my questions to someone else who upgraded a site to dnn 4 and it was alot of work.

You're braver than me that's for sure!!

Thanks for the encouragement :-)
I've got backups up the wazzoo fortunantely as everything I try seems to completely bork the site/db/world at large.
I might try the 3.2.2 - 3.3.6 - 4.3.5 route and see if that gives me any joy.
The whole thing is made even more fun by the fact I'm picking this up cold from another (now ex-) co-worker. (cue hysterical laughter)

I think if I had the time I'd even do the 3.1.1 step - you know DNN 3.1.1 was one of the best DNN 3 builds and I think, if memory serves me right, there was alot of work in upgradability between dnn 2 & 3, I know there is always testing between builds, but I do recall this one being quite good.

And that's a good start to see how it works with DNN3

I know your situation.. picking up other people's work is somewhat character building.. whether we like it or not.

I think sometimes I've got an over engineered character *sigh* brought about that force learning.. so I opt out to easier things when I can.. then when I get enough sleep I get silly and optimistic again!

Good Luck and let's see how you go.
