Not to worry, glad I could help.  It's a common problem that is easily overlooked.

If I may add to this, what do you do if your old web.config file has no MachineValidation or MachineEncryption keys?  I've been given a very old DNN install from version 2.0.3, and it is fully functional for its users yet I've checked out the web.config file and it has no such keys.

I have a similar problem

I am upgrading a portal with over one hundred children from 3.3.5 to 4.5.1.  After upgrade, Aspnet Membership authentication fails with
Event code: 4006

Event message: Membership credential verification failed.

for all existing network users.  New network users autologin as expected.  I have double checked validationKey and decryptionKey to original.  ADSI functions manually for existing users but does not autologin after that.  Any other ideas?

Any help at all?
