Hey guys,

I've been with DNN since the beginning. Love the software. Love the community.

Quick question, I haven't been following the DNN development as closely as I'd like to in the past year and so many things have happened. I have a DNN 3.0.13 live right now. I've been upgrading it all this time but I fell behind. I understand there is DNN 4.4.0 now.

I thought I had read a while back that there wasn't a way to go from 3.x to 4.x. In the last newsletter, it looked like it IS possible now. Is that true or did I read that wrong?

If so, what is the best way to do so? For example, should I upgrade from 3.0.13 to 3.x first? Then, to 4.x? Hopefully there is some documentation out there that can help me. Or, if there is a service where I can pay someone to take care of this for me? My DNN is for a local community and I'm a volunteer Admin. I've run out of time so I'd pay someone to keep me current.

Thanks guys!

Chad Michael

I'm also trying to figure out how this can be accomplished.  I remember that I tried to upgrade from 3.1.1 to 3.1.2 (the first AJAX release) and it failed, however, I think I may have to try again to keep everything updated.

I'm going to copy everything locally and follow the instructions from the documentation to upgrade from 3.x to 4.x and see if that works

Any takers out there?

I posted at a bad time of year and I think everyone was on vacation.

Can anyone steer me in the right direction?

thanks in advance!

AFAIK the following upgrade path should give best results:

  • ASP.NET 1.1: 3.0.13 > 3.1.1 > 3.2.2
  • Switch the now 3.2.2. site over to ASP.NET 2.0
  • 3.2.2 > 4.0.3 > 4.4.0

I was able to run the upgrade successfully on the site from 3.1.1 directly to 4.4.0 in my development environment.
