  Hi,

I am new to DNN.  I have the following problem in my first step when I try to install version 4.0.  I did read the installation guide, but up till now I didn’t changed the databa sesetting in the web.config file.  I would like to use IIS so I set up a virtual directory with local path C:\DotNetNuke_2 (where I extracted the files) and with application name DotNetNuke_2.

When I run http://localhost:1234/DotNetNuke_2/Website/Install/install.aspx?mode=install I get the following error:

Server Error in '/DotNetNuke_2' Application.

Can someone help me?

I on a shared host account with GoDaddy and I am getting the same exact error. I have read my way through everything I can find so far, and no dice on assistance from GoDaddy. If anyone out there has an answer to this I would greatly appreciate it as well!

I think your virtual directory is pointing to the wrong place.  I see in your url that you add the /website/ part to it.  You shouldn't have to add this since your virtual directory should be pointing to C:\DotNetNuke_2\Website and not only C:\DotNetNuke_2.

Hope this helps

thanks Olivier.  I just had to change the virtual directory from c:\DotNetNuke_2 to c:\DotNetNuke_2\website as you suggested.

Now I am in the connectionstring hell like a lot of others.  I created the database with integrated security.  Is this allowed or should I create a specific user?  What is the role for such a user?  Is it only needed for database creation?

I hope someone will help me.

Solved it myself.  Brief: I'am running windows 2003.  I have given "network service" user dbo rights to the database.  In the root directory of my website I gave this user R / W and change rights.

Now I must try setting up the site and learn the code behind it.

Question: is there a ddl of the database, is there UML documentation (class diagrams & collaboration diagrams)?

Thanks for any replies
