All,

Not sure why this seemed to only crop up after my upgrade to 4.4.0, however, I am getting an error often now for:

The specified path, file name, or both are too long. The fully qualified file name must be less than 260 characters, and the directory name must be less than 248 characters.

I believe it's related to the friendly naming convention.

This is the type of url I am getting errors on...

however this works fine (/extranet/ removed) ...

It's probably because the module caching is now defaulted to "File" under host settings.  Change it back to memory and you should be good to go.

And what if we have to use File caching?  On my Godaddy shared hosting account, memory caching causes too many issues.  :(

Then you'll need the path to your DNN install, plus all the way to the modules in the cache portal/_default/cache/cachefile_name to be less than 260 characters.

Which is an ASP.Net limitation not a DNN one.

Although if the problem becomes big enough for many users maybe DNN could make the cache directory configurable, that way a host could even give you a location closer to the root.
That is what I did with PageBlaster.

Thanks for the explanation John.  I hope this might be addressed at some point, at least in the manner you described it could be minimized.
