There have been several versions of the core forum, one abandoned after the next, and unless you are facile with the code and plan on supporting it yourself...

I echo what others have said about ActiveForums and Presstopia.

y01nk is being a bit dramatic, but if that is how he/she feels then that is his/her right. Nobody has ever aboned the code and every new release will upgrade a previous release. The module is not going anywhere, so if thats what you mean by long term support, then it has it. I also maintain a 60 page user document which will be getting overhauled for the next release as well. If you would like developer documents, you can view a test I generated about a month ago at: http://forumdocs.crispy.us.

I have pretty much been the sole developer of the module for the past year and I think even the critics will be quite surprised when they see the release which is currently in beta. At this point, I am not sure what any of the other forums offer that the core one doesn't, outside of anonymous posting.

If anyone would like to take a peak at the module while we are ironing out some changes, please feel free to visit: http://forums.crispy.us.

Hi Crispy,

I am glad you replied that. I was a bit shocked with the other users comments that it got abandoned a few times.

One of the main reasons i would like to use this forum is this forum on this site is a direct proof of what it can do.

It seems to be doing great. I was wondering if there any new list of features which are going in the next release.

If you can let us know some details it will be really appreciated as i am really interested in this module.

Thanks,

Sailu

I could point out a few things but I'll wait until after the next release.  Don't want to create more work for Crispy at this point.

Here are two examples of high volume sites that are using Active Forums.

Will,

I looked at your product and was very interested.  So I sent an email asking two very simple questions:

1.  Do you have a trial version or refund policy if I purchase the product and it won't work on my VERY strict hosting providers .Net security configuration?

2.  Do you offer a discount for 501 (C)(3)?

I got no response.  Ok...no biggie...So I called your office.  Here's what I got.

ActiveModules: (a very curt) ActiveModules...

FrankT: Hi.  I have a couple of questions about your ActiveForums module?

ActiveModules: silence.....

FrankT:  Ok.. Well, I was wondering if you guys offer some sort of trial version so I could test to make sure that if I spend 60 bucks I am going to get a product that will work with my hosting provider?

ActiveModules: No.....

FrankT: Well do you guys offer any kind of discount rate for a not for profit?

ActiveModules: No.....

FrankT:  Click!!!!!

Great customer representative answering the phone.  Really, I can understand your policies but whoever answered the phone needs to learn how to treat a potential customer.
