Hi, Im trying to set up .net Nuke 4 for an existing website I have, as I want to add in some content management features.

My existing ISP claims that I can run dnn on my current hosting package (It has .net 2.0, VS 2005 on it), so before I start I just wish to check a few things.

1) As I understand it, all I need to do is to ftp all the files in the install.zip to the webroot I have been provided, is this correct?

2) At the moment, the domain name will be pointing to the web root. If I install dnn there, will I need to change the location that the domain name is pointin to? (for example, will the home page be http://www.mydomain.com/index.aspx, not http://www.mydomain.com/portal/index.aspx)

3) I am assuming that the content and pages I have on my site at present will site happily within dnn until I can convert them to modules, or will I need to make them modules on day 1 when I install?

Ok, thats it for now, though no doubt I'll have more questions a little later on today.

Cheers

Sb

1. No, you will have to edit web.config too
2. No the first portal you create will be http://www.mydomain.com/default.aspx
3. You can put your current site in a separate folder and link to it from DNN, or use the iframe module to show it in DNN

If you want to make sure you have all the appropriate user rights to install DNN you can download this tool.
It tries to create and delete a testfile and a testfolder as the user running the asp.net process.

I always run this to check since DNN is not that great a continuing a failed install...

Please forgive my incredible newbie-ness (I just moments ago registered and downloaded stuff), but I'm trying to get all the information I need before I actually start since I'm worried about the blog and forum I already have installed on my site.  I've searched for information on installing to a web host but I'm coming up blank.  This thread is the only one I've found so far.  Here's my deal:

Is it really just a matter of uploading the files and adjusting the web.config file?  I know I'll have to have my host change some file permissions since they don't allow user-based file level permission setting, but they're really good about that.  It's just hard for me to believe it's supposed to be that easy.

Thanks for any response you might offer.

Robin
