be sure to ping /keepalive.aspx, hits to this page will not be recorded in the dnn site log

Very clear ! Thanks you.
I have just discovered that I had a keepalive.aspx page. Great !!! I have also stopped the pinging utility that I had put in place with host tracker recently (because now, the website is not so often visited, I am still testing it befoe launching the final address everywhere... Hehehe)

Why is it useful to use such a tool if you have plenty of visitor (let's say for example 2000 per hour) ??? Is it useful in such a case ??

The only time a keep alive or ping is useful is if you don't have any traffic for 20 minutes straight.

Using host-tracker or some other monitoring service is still very useful though because it will e-mail you if your site stops working for some reason. It's beeter to know right away when your site is down than to rely on your visitors to tell you.

You could also try using the free service at host tracker.
This also sends you emails of outages and uptime reports.

Be aware that not all website statistic are clever enough to discount pings to keepalive.aspx so ytou may need to exclude these hits if you are able to within your stats.

At times, it has taken over 3 minutes for a page to load. Any ideas? Perhaps some DNN/IIS6/SQL2K5 optimizations for DNN?

Did you ever find out what was making it slow sometimes?

I've got a problem with a 4.4.1 installation at the moment - most of the time it starts in under 20 seconds, but sometimes (one in 30 times) it's taking up to 5 minutes to start (and once it even took 30 minutes!)

I've already got host-tracker on it (that's how I know the problem's there) but I'm wondering how to identify what is taking so long to start sometimes....
