Ok, I'm new to DNN and I have built a site with modules, etc.  However, I am at a loss on how and/or where I'm supposed to start writing ASP code to work with sql databases.  The needs of this site are unique and a standard module(i dont think) will not suffice.

Is there a module I can use that will take ASP.NET code?  Do I need to create a custom module?  Is this the only way to do it?

Yes - that is the purpose of custom modules, to build something that meets a specific need.

Is there a good resource that I can use to begin creating a module that will interact with an SQL database?  I tried reading the module creation guide but got stuck.

1. I'm using visual web developer express 2005 and I have added a folder under desktopmodules directory.
2. What kind of item should I insert into that folder? a page?
3. I know I have to reference that module to the project somehow, I am just confused on how to do that exactly.

TIA

1. make sure that you have downloaded the starter kit (and templates for VWD)

Ok, I got the starter kit going.

I added a custom module and renamed the folders.  I then added the module with module definitions.  The module is now selectable on my site.

When I added the module, however, the actual module has errors in it but still shows the container.  Should this default custom module template be working out of the box?
