I'm having 4.8 upgrade problems as well, and from the prior posts it's clear that there are some wrinkles to the process depending on how many versions you're skipping over.

Is there documentation somewhere on the precise steps to go from 4.4 to 4.8 (hosted installations) and from 4.5 to 4.8? My first attempt at 4.4 to 4.8 broke (generic web.config access error) and I have no clue what I did wrong. I've done several upgrades with earlier versions and never had a problem.

Thanks for any help.

-Michael

Based on some limited experience, try upgrading to 4.6.2 first.  Verify that is successful.  Then you can upgrade to 4.8.0.
