Hi,

I have an existing 3.x portal and am in the process of building a new 4.8 dnn install on another server for testing some new forum software and upgrading the existing site, once it is all working I'll then wipe the old one and move the 4.8 one to live.

I however, don't have the original install files for the custom skin being used and the guy who uploaded it can't find them either. Is there a way of getting the skin and containers from the existing 3.x installation?

Thanks

Nathan,

You should be able to accomplish this with relative ease. Try checking the directories listed below for subdirectories with your skins name, then copy those folders to your new installation and you should see these as options when choosing a skin (or containers) for your site.

Portals\_default\Containers
Portals\_default\Skins
Portals\0\Containers
Portals\0\Skins

That should be a good start, let me know what progress you are able to make.

Take care,

Ian

Thanks for that Ian, one step further now - I can select the skin but after I selected a container I got the following exception thrown:

"An error has occurred.

FindControl requires that controls have unique IDs. ---> System.Web.HttpException: Multiple controls with the same ID 'ctr' were found. Nathan,

I'm familiar with this error message, but its a little hard to trouble shoot for me without knowing the contents of your container(s), skin(s), etc.....

Would you mind sharing the content of your container at least? The error message has to do (as it says) multiple asp.net controls with the same ID (which isn't allowed).  Does this happen if you use the same container on the page more than once -- or the first time that you place the container on the page? This will help us to narrow it down to a container only problem or a container and skin combination problem.

thanks!

Hi Ian, thanks for this.

I've zipped up the skin and container folder from the 3.x site http://www.justgofaster.com/jgf3skin.zip

On that site you can also see the skin working fine with dnn 3.x

I'm new to skinning, someone else did this for me so no idea how right or wrong it is.

Thanks!
