It's version 4.8.2, a new install.
I didn't check the permissions button (this time) because I tried that about 5 or 6 times (each time, deleting the database and starting over) before this, and it seems there's a bug where if you do that, it creates the [username]Version table when you do the check permissions, then when you click Next on the same page, the installer fails, stating that the [username]Version table has already been created.
So this time when I installed, I skipped the database check, and it went to the next step without any errors, however I get the results that I posted originally.
But the [username]Version table was created at some point, so the connection must be "ok enough" for DNN to talk to the database and create a table.
Before I tried installing the first time, I read the easy setup guide at http://www.bestwebsites.co.nz/webcontent/bws/easy-dotnetnuke-installation-guide.aspx as it seemed to be more current than the included docs (which have a date of 2005).
Thanks again for any insight.
