I'm sorry but I think that comment was really overboard, regardless of what is going on right now I really do appreciate Chris's efforts with this module, I'm still using it... did you or I ever pay for this module?

You do have a choice of moving over to a third party module should you so wish.... please don't respond by repeating what has already been said here, it is understood loud and clear.

Thanks...

Alex Shirley

I do think the issue is that we have been here to offer support as best we can, and show our appreciation for what has and is being done... but how can we seriously continue to show support and appreciation when we are continually treated like this?

That is not rhetorical.  I really do want to know!

For a good year + we've been strung along waiting for a bug fix and told how it is imminent, can see it working fine with the fix at dnnforums.com but for months we've been shown absolutely no respect by leaving it completely open and up in the air.

What can't someone at DotNetNuke not tell us the actual situation, what is happening, and what the hold up is when it seems a fix has been made?

Again... not rhetorical. I just don't understand why this can't be answered properly.

And why with all the mighty development power of the DNN team can't they just take the existing release, fix the notification bug, and release it?  That would shutup 99.999% of the comments here.  The ajaxy bells and whistles version Chris P has been sitting on could then be completed in another year for all I care.

Keep in mind that I have switched our site to Active Forums and have to say its great. The cost is minimal, performance, features, and support is great.

That said, I do still care about the state of the Core forum module.  It is important that the DNN team is more aware of the community's input.  Why have a black eye like this? Why let an issue like this drag out when the fix is so easy?

Forget Chris.  If he's busy and can't release (understandable as a volunteer), then someone else should step up, spend the 2 hours to fix the notification bug, and release. Chris can then release the new version at his leisure.

Notice that no one is clamoring for the release because of the new features; everyone just wants a module that is NOT BROKEN.

IMHO - Firstly, great respect and thanks to the DNN Core Teams for the volounteer work they do.. however, I have been watching these threads for a while now and I thought I would say something.

I use the simple core modules - HTML mod etc. The moment I hit a more complex one I pay for it. After a year of wasting time raising bugs on the core forum modules I switched to Active Forums on PokerDIY and it saved me a lot of time (which = money of course). I find the lack of support (this is aimed at no one particular person, and I understand everyone works for free etc.) incredibly frustrating and DNN Corp seemed to have abondened their babies and are not willing to speak for them. Lack of communication is the problem. I find the $100 (or whatever) a year or so for the license is far cheaper than the 10 hours I spent raising issues on the core forum or asking for updates about why we can't post new posts yet.

What annoys me is the amount of time I wasted tring to communicate on the core projects and asking questions, only to have them never be answered or impemented. As soon as I realised that there was no point I switch immediately to another solution (paid, or free, if the support is good) and never look back.

I said as much in my Map module posting - I wasted endless hours on this. I first raised the Forum posting issue in October, 2007. It will be 2 years soon with no fix for what I consider a major showstopper (I get the same problem on Smart-Thinker.com and yes, I will move to a better forum solution, problem Active Forums).

Bottom line - if the module really is not going to be fixed or updated periodically - let the "customers" (us users) know, then we won't waste time on it. Put a disclaimer at the top or publish the amount of hours worked by the team so that we know what to expect. No one is saying we expect a lot, but we do expect to be told what's going on. Perhaps the project teams are less likely to work for free now that the DNN Corop team are essentially getting paid (this is purely food for thought) - I definitely think the projects need a big shake-up or funding.

I certainly won't be using the core modules until communication between the developers and the users is improved.

I know we must sound like a broken record... but the DNN team sounds like                   .

Yes, the sound of silence.

As Rodney says, let us know what's going on.  That really would be a bonus, but what has been the true kick in the guts - even worse than not telling us what's happening is telling us something is or will be happening when it isn't.  We have been misled for well over a year on this.

So the questions still remain unanswered.  Is there anyone at all on the DNN team that can answer these PLEASE?

Why is the new forums module, which seems to be working at dnnforums.com not been release?

Why are we not told anything at all after having been told a release would be some time back?

Why is this dragging out?

Why won't our questions be answered?

Actually... scrub that last one... if it's answered than it wouldn't apply anyway!

I really hope someone at DNN cares enough about the community to provide some real answers to these.
