no need to fork it - simply open it up as full open source and let the community that uses it fix it rather then just testing it.

These are exactly my thoughts too, the Corporation really needs to just publish the development trunk across the entire suite. Things like this could of been fixed eons ago, but it seems they'd rather annoy their users and promote forking the codebase to accomplish these simple tasks...

Once again, I'm just keep asking for transparency. Open up the SVN trunk, expose all the "fixes" you guys have been keeping behind lock and key for the last 2 years and let someone that actually wants to use your product fix the bugs and publish a patch.

Forget Chris.  If he's busy and can't release (understandable as a volunteer), then someone else should step up, spend the 2 hours to fix the notification bug, and release. Chris can then release the new version at his leisure.

Not a bad idea for those looking to fork the project.  Why not temporarily fork off the project from the last released version, fix the "perceived" issues and release a build to the general public.  Once the official version is released you can always upgrade to that.

With the time spent complaining how the Corp and Chris is not properly managing the project, you could have fixed all the outstanding issues and possibly more.

The fix is to do what just about every DNN site with over a few users that I know of has done already - go with Active Forums.  That leaves the main problem being the forums on DNN.com.  I just wrote a post and hit send and the forums threw an error and my post is lost. Partly my fault because I know from experience I should copy the text to the clipboard before I hit send with this forum module.

What would it take to get DNN corp to switch the forums here to AF?  This problem is a serious PITA.

With regards to the personnel invovled I think some of these posts are a little overboard and I'm glad Rodney brought up the map module. Both modules suffer from the same problem. For instance I know the R2I guys are good folks but WOW do these guys have some irons in the fire - it's no wonder it took (takes) forever for things to get done. I would guess the same holds true for Chris on the forums module.  I know there are friendships involved but some of these projects need to be turned over to people who have fewer irons in the fire so that they can get some things done. No offense Chris.  It even sounds as thought there are some people in this thread with the ability AND the desire.

This is ridiculous - 50 replies on the thread and 4000 views?

Which of the following takes more all around effort:

fix the bug and post the build, or,

do nothing, explain over and over again why things are the way they are, repeatedly defend the inactivity in threads like this, and reply back to the constant queries from users or the Corp on what the status is.

Some people have done that.  They have forked the code and implemented into their site, but now their code has no way forward.  Ideally this work should be done by the DNN official site... otherwise its way easier to get Active Forums as cheap as it is.
