Sebastian:
Ah... I thought that the documentation was a joint venture. Sorry.  Also, I think it would be fair to compare DNN to any and all software packages that provide similar features, and have similar communities.  How else can we see where we stand versus the competition.

Jan:
Looking at the link you left, I think that only thing we as a community do not have (yet) is certification.  The PE version is a first step in that direction.  Unfortunately, we do not have a single page to use as a resource to list all of those features in a single list.  Our community members provide much of that in one form or another, so doing so would be difficult for a number of reasons.  Most of those reasons would be political, and not really logistical or technical.

dnner:
I agree with your assestment of the documentation whole-heartedly.  Unfortunately, we do not all learn the same way.  Documentation is a necessary evil for nearly all projects to get a section of the community jump-started on various topics.

With millions of DNN sites out there, I can't imagine a "technical issue" popping up that wont show up in these forums.

With the PE version you get access to the "paid technical forum" but more importantly you also have someone hold your hand and point you to the answer (Guaranteed product issue resolution through premium support channels).

I think that is what you're paying for. Time is money, If you can afford the PE version, it sounds like a nice thing to have when you screwed something up and your site is down.

(some may wonder why all the non paid Core members are giving so much support to the DNN Corp. We know the "real people" and able able to see that "money needs to flow to keep things going")

If you don't want to pay for the PE edition, don't.... I don't have the 2k so all my sites will be running using the Community Edition :)

But believe me I REALLY do want those who can afford it to help fund the Corp.

People are always demanding better this and better that. Ok you can now have it. Get out your check book and finally get the level of support you feel you need.

The rest of us, let's quietly continue to download the free version and solve our problems the old fashion way with Google and a lot of patience :)

I dont love Umbraco, I just showed the link as a teaser how it could bee.

Will. Dont see all problems see the possibility.

To have a well documented community version is a selling point not a obstacle.

I can give ten more links and to bee in the top you need to show you belongs in the top, and I am sure google documentation is not a winning concept.

Neither a online help documentation system thats never is accurate.

Presumtive customers looks for documentation before they buy, they dont google for it.

The documentation is still and always has been provided voluntarily by community members.  If you want to or know of someone that wants to help increase the quality of the documentation, I am sure that they would love to have the help.  :)  I am guessing, but I think Lorraine Young leads the documentation effort.  Like most of us, they only have so much time to keep the documentation as updated as it should be.

I agree that there are weaknesses in many areas of the DNN project.  I believe that the DNN website itself needs a larger focus on SEO, documentation needs to be better, and so on.  Every area that needs more attention is not that way because they do not think it's important.  They are just missing the volunteers from the community to properly address the issue.
