Does anybody remember this contest:

DNN was third - only being beaten out by Drupal and Joomla - not bad considering our Windows heritage, and we received some positive comments from the judges.
Wow, I just saw the light turn on as to why people could get confused.. If we're voting to compete against this sort of thing - eg.. other CMS products, it's hard not compare in the overall picture. I see the runner up in the competition we all voted in, yet, in reality, it's not the same, but it seems close enough to not do justice to what DNN is. And, tt wasn't till I really read through some of these posts, I could see where people get very confused, especially new people, especially if they have tried other php solutions, especially if they are coming in with the idea it's the same but better for whatever reason.
There is some excellent material in this thread. I think that perhaps it would be a good idea if some structured comparisons on what a CMS is compared to the DNN framework would really help give newcomers a better idea of comparing 'apples with apples' rather than the very obvious 'apples with oranges' that seems to be occuring here.
I did a quick search on wikipedia for CMS and WCM
It seems in wikipedia there is quite a bit of confusion as well, just at first glance..

I"m not a wiki person, but I know many are and it's a popular resource for research and it's an interesting observation that it's being compared still very closely.
This is an interesting topic and I can see where people may be getting confused too.
