Technically, pptx, docx, and xlsx files are .zip files with a different filename extension. However, you would expect them to download and keep their proper extensions. Firefox does this, but for some reason IE8 wants to save them as .zip when using the Title As Link feature in the Documents module. The Download link works properly in both browsers.

I'm not sure anything can be done about this, except to specify the Download field, or tell IE users to manually change the extensions in the Save As dialog box.

Hi Thomas,

Thanks for the information.  Please submit this to Gemini (support.dotnetnuke.com) so that we can make sure to address this in a future release.

Anything happening with this issue?  I notice if I post up a xslx(MS Excel 2007+) file it will try to rename the extension as ZIP and open the xlsx container in explorer.  THis is not the proper behavior. If it would keep the proper extension then IE 8 would have excel handle the document.. Please update us on status. I am running latest DNN 5.4.4 with latest packaged documents module.

I just checked, and it looks like I did not submit this to Gemini at the time Scott suggested it. Therefore, I have submitted it to Gemini today.

Thanks for reminding me.

there is an issue with the mimetype, linkclick.aspx simply uses "application/octed" and the download handler looks into the code and identifes it as a zip (what, in fact, those file formats are). Instead, it needs to derive proper mime type from file extension.
