I want to put mutiple websites on one database at a public hosting company. These will be small, simple websites.

First, can this be done, and can someone point me to instructions or other threads?

Second, does this require using the SAME DNN install, or can I use unique installs?

Finally, if a client wanted to move thier site down the road, how would I seperate thier data from other's in the same database?

Thanks - D.N.Nuker

Use DNN multiportal feature:

  • setup a single DNN installation
  • make sure, all additional domain names point to this DNN web site
  • log in as superuser ("Host") and in Host:: portals create the additional sites

if you need to separate a portal, clone files and database and remove portals not needed from both copies.

Sebastian:

Thank you. One of my ideas is to only give site "owners" Admin privileges, and as a developer retain Host rights. This would keep people from some top level features. The question(s) is/are: (1) Will setting the single install of DNN allow all Admin users to see all the skins and containers? (2) Is this limitation of mine a good idea (is it ethical?)
