I think we need to use the editor that the most users are comfortable and familiar with. I recently had my site reviewed as a "Poker Blogging Platform" (a side-feature) and one of the criteria I got 5/5 on was having FCKEditor, one of the most widely recognised editors avaialble... we don't want to have to make the user's think! ;)

I've looked at CKEditor but I really don't see any features that FCK doesn't have. Am I missing something?  Is it just a speed advantage?

I have been looking for an open source DNN RTE that has a file manager for the templates feature instead of just a single xml list of templates like FCK/CK has. So far the only RTE's that have that feature are the commercial one's (RAD and CUTE) and those are pretty expensive.

Thanks Watcher. This looks promising. I don't see however any DNN file manager capibilites. Like "browsing for images". I guess I'll have to roll up my sleeves this week.

No, it's pretty much the same functionally, just a later version - it's prettier, more usable and more accessbile (according to the website ;). The backend has been rewritten for performance benefits etc. I think the new UI looked a lot more "web 2.0ey" ;) than the old one. Users are spoilt these days with Facebook and all the new AJAX-based sites so they expect all sites to look snazzy and respond quickly.
