*sigh*.  I don't understand why I am having such issues.  I have done this about 6 times, all unsuccessfully.  I have followed the documentation as closely as possible.

Thanks for the help, flanakin - but your suggestion regarding resetting the admin password did not work.  I set the passwordformat to 0 and the password to my password, but I still could not login.  Then I even registered a new account.  Even then I still could not login.  Obviously the problem is worse than it appears.  I am just going to tear this down and start from scratch again.

Maybe I need to find an OLD dnn3 installer and just upgrade from 2.1.2 to 3 to start with, and then after I am successful with that attempt the dnn4 upgrade?

I'm honestly not sure why you're having so many problems, but perhaps a clean install would be best. Trying the installer approach might be worth it, too, but since we can't really tell what the source of the problem is, it's hard for us to help you get around it and/or suggest a better way to get the job done.
