Our old configuration allowed the user to press the login button to be sent to our custom page with the iframe link to windowssignin.aspx...

DNN 5.3.1 everything is configured EXACTLY the same, however the first visit to any page is logging in our users. We prefer the user having the option to login instead of forcing them automatically.

Dumb question, but do you have All Users set with View Permissions?

It sounds like needs to be commented out in the section in your web.config (there's two listings in that section so make sure both are commented out).

Heh, evidently quick reply strips tags off of lines.... Sorry about that.

In the <httpModules> section look for an uncommented <add name="Authentication"..... />
