Hi All,

Time for my annual update on DNN Article modules! This is still the best thread on the subject and gives an open platform for all vendors to weigh in.

I am still on Ventrian NA and PA but I am looking at which module provides the best UX today and can support Geocoding.

I want to users to be able to publish home poker games and pick their location on a map (bonus points – auto-detect location based on IP like Netism does for the Map custom field!!!)

DigNuke and SunblogNuke are on my evaluation list as they seem to meet most of my requirements (cost is not a factor for the right module) – I want the one that is going to be updated the most in the future – both vendors listen to customers and update regularly which is great.

I’m going to set them both up side by side and see which one can replace my Find Home Poker Games page which is running PA (which does not integrate with AS Journal yet). If that works I will eventually replace my blogging NA module too.

Those are the two I would look at although not sure if either will do IP filtering. Couple of ideas:

  • I know Digarticle does a lot with the querystring. I'm thinking you might be able to filter the news module on a querystring variable?
  • Could you just send a user to a page on PokerDIY that is local for that user? If so, Redirect ToolKit is a very cool module. Major impressed with all that it can do. It uses maxmind.com and geobytes.com for it's geoIP database so it can detect down to the city level with fair accuracy.  This way the user wouldn't even have to mess with selecting from a map.  And you can put this module on an interior page so the user isn't redirected away from the home page if you want.  Redirect Toolkit can also add the variable to the querystring so the news module can filter on it. (I think).

Hope this helps.

hey Greg, interesting module - will check it out - can you give me some examples of how you are using it?

My Smart-Thinker UP module already fills in a users location based on IP automatically - however I need the user to select the location of their home poker game when adding new games (I assume I use a Custom Map Field)

Fast forward 1 year later...   It would be nice to have an update on this research effort around Blog modules.  Another one that bubbles up in my search is the EasyDNN solution.  How does this compare to the SunBlog and DigNuke.  Thanks.
