I am totally new to DNN and need your guidance and help.  I am modifying an existing website that uses DNN - ASP to perform some user opt-in functions ... etc. I was able to review the code and pretty much leave the ASP alone only modifying the HTML, CSS code .  However, when accessing the modified page (even though the ASP remained the same) - I continually receive a 500 internal server error.

Is there something I need to change within DNN?  If I install DNN, do I have to reinstall what is currently located in the root directory of the production website?   If I install current version of DNN, what do I need to do to implement these ASP pages without receiving the 500 Internal server errors?

Any and all help would be greatly appreciated, as I am trying to get this website implemented on the production servers this weekend.

you should stand away from modifying DNN core, use custom modules and skins instead. Please be more explicit about your situation, what did you do and what is the exact error message.

Thanks for your response.  I am not trying to modify DNN.  Just trying to figure out how to implement changes made to existing website that uses DNN.  The original developer is no longer available and I can not access the existing DNN settings used for the site.  I am only modifying a ASP page - however i am using the existing ASP code, only modify the page layout HTML & CSS .  When I execute the page via any web browser on the production server where, I receive a 500 - internal server error.

Here is a little more information:  When i run debug in Visual Studio it shows the following error:  Could not load file or assembly 'DotNetNuke' or one of its dependencies. The system cannot find the file specified.

Some additional detail would be helpful..  the more detail the better the help - typically.

What version of DNN are you working with?  Have you updated any of the core file?  Have you performed an Update of the site?

You may need to download the install version of DNN (for your speciific version of DNN) from Codeplex and verify that all the file in the bin directory of the install zip are actually in the bin directory of your site.  If not, copy of the missing files and see if that helps.

Prior to changing anything, I would perform both a file and database backup.

Paul.
