My most recent DNN site build is with Godaddy and the shared server space is with their new "4GH" server arrays. In theory, this should be screaming fast for shared hosting, but in use the DNN site is so slow as to be almost unusable. I'm used to the delay getting a DNN site "started" but even after visiting the site and then coming back to it within a few minutes, it takes upwards of 2 minutes to show the home page. And this site only has ~15 pages with only a couple of 3rd party modules (Live Gallery and Feedback Designer).

In case anyone wants to check it out:  www.fbcenla.org

BTW- Godaddy won't allow DNN installations in the root folder on shared accounts, so I have to redirect traffic from the root. So, I added a "Loading" prompt in the index file to at least indicate to users that they will see the site sooner or later...

Does anyone have any experience with "4GH" server setups and is this a known issue with DNN installations running on them?

Thanks.

Jim

I took a look at your site, Jim, amd it loaded within a few seconds and browsing from page to page was very quick. Just FYI.

Thanks for checking. In fact, I've had some other people check it for me around the country and they are seeing the same decent performance. I'm still having the delays. I just checked again and it took 2 minutes and 46 seconds to start the home page.

Thanks again!

Jim,

I'm not timing it, but it's been over a minute and still "Loading" ... so it isn't just you. Same problem here.

When I ping the site I get "Request timed out" almost one out of every four pings.

Then I ping non-stop for a while and no lost packets for a while. So it's not consistent.

Ditto the website ... now the pages are loading in a few seconds instead of a few minutes.

I had a look at the site first I go the classic object zero error. It tried it again and it eventually displayed.

My first impression of a suspect is the video embedded as an a object on the page

I think this is your primary problem as its not allowing the page to progressively load. In other words everything has to wait for the video to download, which takes about 3 minute (it will vary on your network connections capabilities), before the rest of the page can load.

I would suggest converting the video to the mpeg h264 or a flv formats. and use a player. There are plenty of players available.

I believe that once you have fixed the video your page will have more respectable load times.

Hope this helps

Marcel
