Hi Rodney, you raise some good questions. The press release provides a high level perspective of the acquisition and I would encourage you to read my Blog (  http://www.dotnetnuke.com/Resources/B... ) and Will Morgenweck's Blog (  http://www.activemodules.com/blogs/wi... ) for further clarification on how we intend to integrate the modules with our various offerings.

Ah - my RSS Reader did not have those links yet - will read them now...  (ps - it looks like the ActiveModules site has been DNNed  ;)  I raised a support call on AM regarding my live site yesterday (I upgraded to the latest version of AS and I can't compose AS messages anymore) and have been trying to get on every since - now I know why.

I'll have a read and get back to you if anything is unclear, thanks.

Ok, I read the blogs... it's still not clear to me how this will pan out. I suspect I am going to have to make a call to stop investing in ActiveSocial (I want to integrate it heavily with my own custom modules) or start saving $2k a year.

One thing I have to say - I feel for the Forum developers who worked on the core Forum module all these years so hard... I hope they get a cut of the profits for their efforts!

My suggestion: Make a tier of DNN that is available to hobbyists with 1 or 2 dnn sites with all the features but none of the support. I could afford to pay $300 a year to DNN for this but $2k is way out of my league. I'd rather invest that in a module developer to write me a custom solution or switch to another framework or learn Ruby on Rails myself...

I am not a professional, I am not an enterprise, but I want the advanced features.

Brian, perhaps the Blogs were not clear, so let me clarify what is happening with ActiveSocial. This module has a lot of base functionality which we feel is best suited for inclusion in the core platform. What we plan to do is integrate this social functionality into the DotNetNuke core so that we have a solid foundation for allowing developers to build rich social solutions in the future. This effectively means ActiveSocial will be available in Community Edition. However it will take some time to do this integration work, so in the meantime, we will continue to offer and support ActiveSocial in its current form so that people can satisfy their social collaboration needs.

Rodney is back!! :) Noticed that you have not been around any of the DNN forums lately and was starting to wonder if all was well.

Well, this is certainly interesting news.  I'd like to thank Chris for all his hard work on the core forum module but I can't say that I'm disappointed in seeing Active Forums replacing it either. As far as Active Social goes I think it will be very interesting to see how Shaun's "strategic evaluation" works out because I see this one module as having the power to either take DNN to new levels or be the straw that broke the camel's back.

Edit:  I was typing while Shaun was posting so I guess we will be helping DNN to new levels rather than trying to learn new frameworks.  This is VERY good news!!!!

I think Active Purchase is an excellent addition to PE.

This means most of ActiveSocial will be available in Community Edition.

Awww. Thanks for being so generous. Right now, I have all of AS/AF available on my Community Edition, but after the take over I will still get most of it. Yay! And, if I want all of AS/AF on my (the same?) website I will have to upgrade to Pro. or Ent. edition. Thank you so much!

Why not create new quality modules from scratch to make DNN more "marketable" instead of taking over good quality modules and screwing up their current customers?

If Will came to you with this offer....he stabbed his customers in their backs.
