We have a folder setup in DNN 5.6.0 that contains several PDF files.  We are trying to secure the PDF files so that they are only viewable to people who are logged into the site.

Should I simply be able to navigate to the folder in the file manager and deny Open, Browse, and Write permissions for All Users?
I tried the above and the file still opens when I go directly to it in a browser while NOT logged into the site.

I also tried creating a new folder with a "Secure - File System" type.  Any PDF files I place in this folder are not accessible by the public, but I cannot get them to come up for users logged into the site either...

If anyone can shed some light on what I'm missing, I would appreciate the help.

After doing some more research, it looks like I'm on the right track with the "Secure - File System" approach.  However, it doesn't appear that the new Rad Editor takes this file system into consideration when linking to files.

Apparently, the old FCKEditor used the LinkClick functionality to link to the file.  The new Rad Editor creates a direct link to the PDF file which will not display due to the Secure - File System settings on the folder...

How can I secure my files so they are not directly accessible by the public, yet allow the files to be used and linked to within the DotNetNuke site by administrators and site editors?

Thanks in advance.

you need to create a new folder of type "secure - File System". If current RadEditor doesn't support those folders (sorry, I don't use it) you may install and use free CKEditor instead (CKEditor 3 is the successor of FckEditor 2). Download it from dnnckeditor.codeplex.com.

Thanks for the feedback Sebastian.

On a side note, will the CK Editor allow me to create a custom editor toolbar that outputs legacy HTML instead of XHTML and limit that editor toolbar to a specific role?

Thanks again.
