Hi

Does anyone know how to turn off the Journal and Messaging and not have them used in the User Profile?
I cannot find any settings for these that do this.

I can see how these "social" features are useful to some but for many cases they are really not good at all.
These modules cannot be uninstalled and seem completely integrated into the profile system.

Maybe I am missing something (hence this post) but right now it seems that if I want a profile system that does not offer messaging etc then the only way is to buy a third party module?

Thanks

Ian

Also, as it is part of my previous post;  Does anyone know where the parameters for the new login skin object can be found please.

I see I can use the legacy mode but is there no control over what is visible / used in advanced mode.

Thanks

Ian

I agree, Ian.  There should be a way to diable the Social Features.  Or at least a procedure for hiding.

I also agree that we need more control over the appearence of the Login SkinObject in Social Mode

HI David

Glad it's not just me that thinks this is a big FAIL.
I wonder how many sites actually want or need these features - maybe 10% - maybe not even that.

For the clients sites I have that do have active memberships and facilities I would still want control of which features are deployed. using them forces me to write lots of support info and of course support users who say "whats Follow for".?

That said I do not have a single site with an active membership on which I use the old profiles system.
It has never been possible to achieve decent layouts and it is not the most flexible or extensible part of DNN so I tend to end up using a 3rd party module for front facing membership data.  Looks like this will continue.

The irony of these social modules is that they seem to have sidelined development of the social module that many of us do already use - The Forum Module.

IMO: rather than building in "baggage" that slows DNN down, and with no control,  limits use I would love to see announcements such as "File Manager now works on large sites" or Documents module now remembers default folders".

Its not like the social modules are anything like the finished article and TBH I resent the - You will work this way attitude

To balance this rant a little there is a great deal to like about recent releases so my thanks for all the hard work.

Ian

PS: Nice site David

Thanks, Ian!

And I agree with most of what you've said.  I don't see it as a rant as much as a point of view on how most websites are built down here in the "trenches".

But I do feel somewhat confident that, over time and with the persistent guidance from the community , DNN will refine these new additions.  I do have a couple of upcoming projects that might benefit from these kinds of Social Tools and would like have them as additional arrows in my marketing quiver.
