OK - so where can I get a good copy of web.config from?

Once I have a new copy, I can readd my config...

But do I need an XML editor to edit these files?

Would this have caused the 500 error?

How can I verify that my web.config is good?

Mnay thanks for your help

JG

you may use a text editor to compare your web.condif with release.config in source of your DNN install folder. An xml editor would help to avoid and detect malformed file content.

Ok - so I seem to be getting somewhere.... I have fixed my web.config file with an xml editor and have uploaded it to the site...

When I access the site from a browser via the public url, it now launches the install wizard (not sure why as I had already configured these steps when it was installed on my local PC?)

However the wizard faiils on the 'building your database' step:

Building Your Database

Your database is now being built. Once the process is complete, the “Next” button will be enabled.

Failure installing Database Scripts

Installing Database - Version 06.00.00...FAILURE 400 - Timeout expired.  The timeout period elapsed prior to obtaining a connection from the pool.  This may have occurred because all pooled connections were in use and max pool size was reached.

Would appreciate any assistance with this...

Thanks for your help so far :-)

I have tried setting these both to false:

<add key="AutoUpgrade" value="false" />
 <add key="UseInstallWizard" value="false" />

 but then when accessing the site, it just takes me to the under contruction page:

This site is currently Unavailable

Please check back later

I would unzip all files besides web.config again and restore the database, to make sure, you didn't damage it during your attempts.
