Hey guys!

Sorry if this has been posted before or if its in the wrong place but I tried doing a search and the webpage came up with an error hence my post.

Any ideas if its possible to intergrate the logins with Active Directory? It would be cool if we could use this portal for our company intranet but we have too many logins for users to remember. If we could intergrate into Active Directory that would be very cool indeed. Is it possible?

Cheers

Check out the projects link up above.  Once there click on Project Active Directory.  From there look at the thread authored by Tam Tran.  It is very informative & I personally found it helpful in setting up Windows authentication for my company's portal.

We seam to be "almost" there with integrating active directory - I say almost because the last step still hangs. We are running Windows 2003, SQL Express 2005, DNN 4.3.1 . Windows authentication is selected, authentication type is Delegation, root domain , userid and password that can access the AD, all setup and DNN recongnised the domain and put up the little green splash that all is well. Then we go back to the web config and change from forms to windows , then back to dnn -but , this is when we hang, the progress bar from IE slowly completes then hangs when "completed". No users can login. Its back to web config , back to forms and all is well again.

Any ideas as to what we should be looking for - Cheers

Hi.

We're just encountered this as well for dnn 4.3.1.  You don't need to change authentication from forms to windows in the web.config.  Just uncomment the following under <httpmodules>

      <add name="Authentication" type="DotNetNuke.HttpModules.AuthenticationModule, DotNetNuke.HttpModules.Authentication" />

Save and hit the site again and it will detect you using AD.  There is also an issue with cookies being cached once you hit the site.  It has to do with IE not DNN.  Make sure you either add this site (ip address or domain name) to your "local intranet" sites or on the list to bypass your proxy server.

HTH,
Lillian

Thanks - certainly did help. Windows authentication now working - some odd behaviour with user management.  Users get automatically  logged in fine - if they logout however then the only way back is to delete the cookie as DNN does not accept a login of the form domain\user . In admin- users , we cant see any of the windows users, and if we go to the "domain" letter in users we get an error - (all other letters are ok but empty), presumeably because of the \ in the names from windows.  The windows names are certainly known by DNN as they are picked up and displayed in the "forums", they just dont appear to be registed nor does their name show up on the top right of the screen where previously registered uses did. (and of course we cant register them because of the \). I suspect there is a bit of a loophole somewhere here.

Thanks again  for your help is getting us this far

Cheers Steve
