I had a very poor experience with Evotiva BackScript.

I was with GoDaddy and had them install DNN.  As indicated you cannot get to the DB or the virtual directory.  Even if they do backups, the tech support told me they could only give me one copy at no charge.  They also stated (from more than on tech) that they CANNOT give you a copy of your virtual directory.

I dumped GoDaddy for this very reason - GoDaddy does not backup your site each night.  The 2 DNN modules that claim to do backups really don't work under al circumstances (bought both).

about backups...they pretty much suk on godaddy.  if you ever need them to restore for you, they charge you $150 and you have to wait 7 to 10 days.  seems crazy these days.  it's like they put the backup tape on a cart with a mule pulling it to get the tape back to their datacenter.

Ok, I ran into this issue myself (not with GoDaddy), so I created my own Backup module. I won't pay $50 for a module that doesn't work and deletes negative reviews. This is really something that should be included in the core for free, I'm thinking after I get all the bugs out of my module, I'll submit the code to the corp.

Anyways, It works for me, I get a nightly backup uploaded to AWS S3 every night, so far the last week of off-site backups has cost me $0.28 USD. I'm not sure if anyone would be interested in running this, or just helping me test it on a few different hosting providers. As a free module developer I cannot justify purchasing a bunch of hosting accounts to test out my freely released applications. It's not available for download, you have to email me for further information.

I've never had a problem backing up my database on godaddy..  You can back it up as a .bak file.... and you can restore from a .bak file.

It's something I do manually every month or so... or before and after a major update.

As of 2/23/09, go backup your database on

1. Login to www.godaddy.com

2. Click on Hosting...My Hosting Account

3. Click on "Manage Account" for  your domain name that has DNN on it.

4. Click on "Databases" and then on "SQLServer"

5. Click on the pencil icon (mouseover top "Edit/View")

6. Click on "backup" then OK.  It will store yourdatabasename.bak in your db_backup folder, which you can download or rename from your FTP server.  Just be sure to rename it before you do another backup, or else it overwrites it with the newest backup.  I usually change the name to the date.bak.  For example, today's backup would be 2-23-09.bak

You can restore by repeating steps 1-5 and then hit "Restore" on step 6.

Pretty easy.

I know you can backup on GoDaddy, and you can restore the same backup that you made, but you can't restore a backup from your localhost development machine.

DnnCreative shows you how to do to migrate a website from live to dev machine in their tutorials, but you can turn around and move a backup from your dev machine back up to GoDaddy's sql servers. They say it is a security problem. I'm looking for another way to accomplish the same thing, or else I will need to move off of GoDaddy, even though they're cheap, my time is more valuable!

I had a very poor experience with Evotiva BackScript. I am a very experienced DNN developer but never could get PageScript to work. I did notice that the seller deletes all reviews of his software that are not 5 stars. I caught one review that was very poor but within an hour it had been deleted.  The developer basically called me a lier whenever I reported a problem. I finally had to ask for a refund from SnowCovered because there was no way to follow the poorly written documentation.

Just saw this.

1) As you shoud now, SnowCovered does not allow delete or update any review. Therefore you know you are lying

2) You've got your refund. Not becasue the module was not working (It works like many users can prove.) but because your attitude was very poor. Therefore you know you are lying about this too.

Do you remember this (read below)? And anyway, after that you kept bugging us with more questions... Should I post here all the emails too?

Horacio, you have called everyone on here a liar, including myself, so I am not going to take it personally.  I am merely reporting a bad experience I had with Evotiva BackupScript.  You are not accounting for time zone differences. You are on the other side of the globe from me so you have to subtract about 10 hours from my email times to see the true time difference.  I know that SnowCovered does not allow you to edit reviews, I am talking about the reviews on your own web site. You delete all bad reviews of your software, including my own.  I saw another person's bad review on your web site and when I came back it was gone.  My own review was deleted from your site within an hour.
