 This is a re-post from the Configure it section - I should have posted it here, I guess.

Maybe I'm missing something, but I cannot get the DNNMenu to raise the OnNodeClick event on my page. There seems to be absolutely no documentation for this event - not one single mention of it in the Client API PDF docs!

I am writing my own custom module with the following code

in my ascx:

<DNN:DNNMenu id="MyDNNMenu" runat="server" Orientation="Horizontal" ForeColor="White"

MenuBarCssClass="MenuBarClass" MenuCssClass="MenuClass" DefaultIconCssClass="NodeIconDefault"

DefaultNodeCssClassSelected="SelClass" DefaultNodeCssClassOver="HoverClass" DefaultNodeCssClass="NodeDefault" PopulateNodesFromClient="true"

DefaultChildNodeCssClass="ChildNodeDefault" RootArrowImage="images/arrowroot.gif" childarrowimage="images/arrow.gif" OnNodeClick="MyDNNMenu_NodeClick" >

</DNN:DNNMenu>

in my code behind file:

private void PopulateTree()

{

MyDNNMenu.MenuNodes.Clear();

objNode = new MenuNode("Menu1");

objNode.ToolTip = "View Menu";

objNode.ImageIndex = 0;

objNode.ClickAction = eClickAction.Postback;

MyDNNMenu.MenuNodes.Add(objNode);

}

protected void MyDNNMenu_NodeClick(object source, DNNMenuNodeClickEventArgs e)

{

      int i = 0;

}

I read in the WebControls documentation something about enabling populate on demand by way of creating setting in a file called "skin.xml" - but the only "skin.xml" file I could find on my system was in the Portals\0\default directory. I added the suggested lines but it still doesn't work. I am a total newbie as regards skinning, so what should I do?

You seem to be confusing things here, or maybe I am confused.  You state you want to write a custom module, I would assume this means a custom menu...  however you also state you are looking into the skinning stuff, which would mean you would not be using a custom menu...  Which is it?

If it is a custom module with a custom menu then let me suggest downloading the sample app at webcontrols.dotnetnuke.com.  It has a menu sample that has a server side postback (node click event).   Without doing any research I would guess is all you need to do is specify the ClickAction correctly.

Sorry for any confusion - I really do not want to get into skinning, I would much rather get my custome menu working.

I downloaded the sample app, but it doesn't contain any code behind files - the DNNMenu.ascx.vb file is missing. I also dissassembled the dll files using Reflector, but I still could find out how to set the node click event - I could find one single place where the Click event is set to 'Postback' - so what should it be? Can somebody let me have the code behind file? or just a basic outline of how to get the events working?

Download the package specified as Source, it contains the code behind files.
