What are the general steps to follow when attempting to upgrade from 3.x to 4.x?

I know I need to switch the websie to use .NET 2.0 and update the web.config files.... Anything else?

Comments from anyone who has done this?

Thanks!

besides any usual step doing in-version upgrades:

  • delete any .vb files before upgrading from DNN3 to 4
  • make sure, you use a dedicated App pool for ASP.Net 2.0 applications in your IIS

do not forget to start with a backup of your installation folder and database first!

leupold,

when I upgraded from version 3 to 4.3.5, I wasn't aware of the advice to delete all .vb files prior to upgrading.

My dnn install is still messed up regarding folder/files and permissions after quite a bit of research and effort.

If I were to delete all .vb files now (I'm at 4.3.6 at present) and then upgrade to 4.4.0, is there a possibility that my problems could be corrected? Or was the damage caused permanent with no way out?

I did of course back up both the file system and the database prior to upgrading to 4.3.5, but too much has taken place since then to return to that point by now.

if you delete and unzip 4.4.0 (or 4.3.6), it should work with at least no additional issues.

So, just to be clear, if you have a 3.x source installation and you are upgrading to 4.4 source version, you need to delete all core source files??
