I have created a virtual directory for my DNN site and extracted the entire package to the DNN folder. I then created a database in SQL Server 2000 with the name “DotNetNuke” and created a user named DNN_user, with full permissions, under the permissions tab.

I then edited my web.config file to have the following details:

<!-- Connection String for SQL Server 2000/2005 -->
    <add
      name="SiteSqlServer"
      connectionString="Server=Fred;Database=DotNetNuke;uid=DNN_user;pwd=****;"
      providerName="System.Data.SqlClient" />

 </connectionStrings>
 <appSettings>
    <!-- Connection String for SQL Server 2000/2005 - kept for backwards compatability - legacy modules-->
    <addkey="SiteSqlServer"value="Server=Fred;Database=DotNetNuke;uid=DNN_user;pwd=****;"/>

Upon loading the page, I get the following error:

Error Installing DotNetNuke
Current Assembly Version: 04.04.01
ERROR: Could not connect to database specified in connectionString for SqlDataProvider

This particularly puzzles me because we had an installation of the ibuyspy portal from several year ago, and I confirmed that the connection string coding was similar (different DB, but same server).

Any suggestions people could provide would be immensely appreciated! The .NET version for the virtual site is set to 2.0, in case you were wondering.

Josi.

is DNN_user created as SQL Server user and correctly mapped as dbowner to your new database?

It has the following roles:

public, owner, accessadmin, securityadmin, ddladmin, backupoperator, datareader, datawriter, denydatareader, denydatawriter

and it has select insert update delete dri permissions on every one of the tables.

However, the user is not the creator - could that be the problem?

The only other thing that I can think of is, when I set up the virtual directory, we did not allow "execute exe" as an option. .. Unfortunately, we have pretty restrictive IT policy here, so unless I KNOW it is the problem, it is alot of hassle to get back into the server room to change that (I have rights to manage the IIS and such remotely, but cannot created sites or change site permissions)

Thanks!!

I do not believe that this is an issue with IIS permissions.

Have you tried logging into the database using enterprise manager and your settings as listed for the server, user, and password?  It appears to not like one of those three data iteams.

Right-clicking on enterprise manager, it actually WON'T let me log on with the username and password as is.  Nor will is let me log on as our previous username, which did work for the ibuyspy portal - or even my own username, which I know should work because it is the default log in for my enterprize manager.

It would seem there is an issue with remote login, yet the same parameters for our IBuySpy portal work.    Our IBuySpy portal is actually on the same machine, and this install of DNN is created as a virtual site below it (I have accounted for the different versions of .NET)

My last guess is that there is an issue with our SQL not being on the default port - but where in the web.config file would I need to change something to accomodate that?

Thank you all so much for your help.
