Happend to me as well. By comparing the versions of web.config turns out that IIS (7 in my case on Vista) changed the <authentication mode="Forms"> into <authentication mode="Windows">.

I changed it back and works fine now.

I have the same login problem.  I built my site from a Starter Kit in Visual Studio.  Site comes up without error but redirects to the main page after host or admin login with no host or admin menus.

I have checked the anonymous login.  I even changed the anonymous login user account from IUSR_... to the ASP.NET machine account but it did not help.

I too am able to login through the Browse option in IIS.

Any other thoughts?

Thanks!
Bruce

My web.config is still set to Forms authentification.  I am running on XP-Pro (IIS 5.1)

Here's what I have set...

<authentication mode="Forms">
      <forms name=".DOTNETNUKE" protection="All" timeout="60" cookieless="UseCookies" />
</authentication>

Additional information...

I am running my DNN from Visual Studio.  When I attempt to login at host or admin I get the following exception in the Output window...

A first chance exception of type 'System.Threading.ThreadAbortException' occurred in mscorlib.dll
An exception of type 'System.Threading.ThreadAbortException' occurred in mscorlib.dll but was not handled in user code

I have exactly the same problem, it's driving me nearly insane.
I've installed DNN 20 + times, moved it from a virtual directory to the root dir, but still no luck.

This problem is occuring every single time, and I have put a post in several times for support, but the only thing you'll be told is to clear the cookies, this doesn't help at all.

Support on the issue would be greatly appreciated!
