Hi, I've downloaded DotNetNuke ver 4.0.2. I've read the document to install it. But one problem, the error message is "Failed to access IIS metabase"!

So help me solve this problem! I think it is on configuration of IIS.

I am using Window Xp sp 2 and Visual studio 2005!

Also having problem with install - database connection.  Attempting DNN 4.0.2 and using Windows XP SP2; SQL Server 2005.  Installation Guide is vague on setting up database permissions, have to follow DNN3 and then attempt to modify to details regarding DNN4 in web.config

1) Unzipped files in in new virtual directory DotNetNuke_2 as instructed

2) Created database DotNetNuke

3) Created new user (qustion as to use of existing Windows login - i.e., Windows authentication vs. SQL login with password - tried both). Assigned new user to DNN database (question as to user "dbo" - has properties of my system login - and it won't let me add my system login as a database user because it says it already exists)

3a) Set Windows file pemissions (Re "sharing": The Installation Guide reflects file permissions for Windows 2000 but not Windows XP - the screens aren't the same)

4) Edited web.config to reflect possible users as detailed in #3

5) Message: "The user is not associated with a trusted SQL Server connection. "

6) Read many messages in Forums - none too helpful.

7) The problem obviously seems to be in setting SQL permissions. Need a clean newbie walkthrough for DNN 4, Windows XP, SQL 2005.

Thank you.

I have been trying to look for the full system requirements for installing DNN 4.x. No one can give a good answer to this. So I tried the following:

1. BOX#1 Running WinXPPro SP2 with .NET2 and all security up to date. IIS 5.1 is also on this same machine.
2. Extract the files out to a directory on BOX#1.
3. Config IIS. Added the virtual directory and permissions similar to the help video for DNN3 in IIS5.1 on BOX#1.

4. BOX#2 Running SQL2000 on a W2003 server. Created database dotnetnuke on BOX#2 and setup permissions similar to the help video.
(BOX#2 is a full production machine, so I don't want to do any testing on it.)

5. Setup web.config file to point to SQL server (This part is kind of vague. Have not been able to find any help on this)
<!-- Connection String for SQL Server 2000/2005 - kept for backwards compatability - legacy modules -->
    <add key="SiteSqlServer" value="Server=10.4.2.206;Database=dotnetnuke;uid=dnnuser;pwd=password;"/>
The dnnuser account was created on the SQL2000 server with IP 10.4.2.206.

6.Tried running the install for DNN 4.02 and get the error message that it "fail to access IIS metabase".

I'm going to try to install the SQLExpress on BOX#1 and do a test with that.

Ok I had this problem.

First- there can be a problem if the framework is installed before the IIS, try to reinstall the framework.

Second (most important)- make sure the ASPNET account has proper rights for the directory and it's subs.

Running the repair option for the framework fixed the issue of the framework being installed before IIS.
