I installed 4.0.2 as a StarterKit and everything went well.  All the core modules were installed.  Then, I followed the instructions to install 4.0.2 from the source files.  Only the Account Login, Banners, Search Input, Search Results, and User Accounts modules show up in the Module list.  I looked at the databases and entries made in the module tables in the starter kit database were not all made in the Source installation database.  Not sure what went wrong or how to best correct it.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions or instructions.

The Source version and the Install version come with different modules as part of the download.  This is for a couple reasons but mostly because projects are on seperate release cycles.  Because of this not all downloads include the same modules.

Barry,

from DNN 3.1 on core modules are no longer pre-installed, but they are installed via the installation procedure during portal setup/update. They are therefore placed in folder /install/modules, from where they are installed and deleted. Have a look into the installation whitepaper of your installation (available in the source distribution of DNN only) for further information.
In both distributions there are 16 modules to be installed by default. If there are only 5 modules available after setup, have a look into /install/modules, if the others still remain there. you can start the installation process manually by calling www.yoursite.com/install/install.aspx?mode=InstallRessources or installing them individually via Host menu, Module Definitions.
If the modules packages are missing, you can extract them from the original installation package and install them as described.
