I have a DNN install that has been upgraded from 4.0.3 to each version all the way up to 4.4.1.  I have never had any problems creating child portals in the past, but since I had not created any new portals for a couple of versions now, I don't know where the problem started. 

That said, now that I am on v 4.4.1 I cannot create new portals. When I try, I get a message that states "Error creating Portal" in red.  When this happens there are no errors in the Log Viewer to give any indication what is wrong.

Now I am dead in the water trying to add clients.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I´m having the same problem, and I did not upgraded from any version. It is a new installation.

can any one help, please?

Does anyone have any ideas here?  I have too many child portals to manually move out and recreate in a new portal and now I am basically dead in the water when trying to add new children for my clients.

We got this too.  It was related to the template we chose to create the new portal.  Some of the older template files do not create the profiles and other info required in the newer versions of DNN.  Try it again using the DotNetNuke template instead of the portal template, etc.  It worked for us. 

We then went in and deleted the old templates, created a new "template site" and exported it to our own template file.  Works perfectly now.
