What is your exact error message, and what you must do to create the error.

Did you have any problems while installation, if yes, did you remove the "failed" installation before you reinstall dnn ?

Hi

I experienced a the same error on my firsd install of DNN 4.02 on Windows XP. As HP mentioned here that you may notice that the install log displayed durring the install may mention that it could not create portal 0, this message can be missed, especially since the last messages mention that the installation was successful.

If you check and find that Portal 0 was not created, then in my case it was tracked down to the fact that when assigning folder security for the virtual web site folder, XP only assigned the settings to the main folder and did not propagate to thechild folders.

Once I ensured that ASPNET has full writes of the Virtual Sites Folders and it's children then the install was successful.

Hope this helps.

So Portal 0 is the _default portal in the portals folder right? I have that and I'm getting the same error. Now, I looked in the portals table and there is no 0 record and from what I've read in other threads that could be a problem. What's the insert statement that needs to be run?

ASPNET and NETWORK SERVICE both have R/W permissions on the mdf and ldf files, as well as all the directories. I actually have some data in some of my tables, so I know that it was able to write to the database. I could be wrong, but I don't remember any errors from the install log.

I would appreciate any help.

Marcus
